Controlling Junk Email
Stop Spam

We all get those breast enlargement and junk emails saying some King in Nigeria wants to give us millions of dollars. Depending on your email service, some of the junk emails get tagged as spam or junk and sometimes they make their way to our Inbox. Here are a few ways of alleviating some of the junk email you receive.

1. Use multiple email accounts - Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo and many others have FREE email accounts you can sign up for. We highly recommend using two or more email addresses. Gmail is highly recommended as they do an excellent job of stopping junk email.

2. Give out your real email address to friends and family. Give your extra email addresses out when a website requires you to sign up for something or register with them. You can also give out your extra email addresses to that annoying person that forwards every single joke being passed around the internet that week.

3. STOP with the E-Greeting card websites. One of the biggest email address harvesters are the free websites that send electronic birthday cards. That free electronic birthday card you want to send to your cousin comes at a price. That price is lot's of junk email. Not only will the website turn around and sell your email address to hundreds of websites, but your cousin's email address gets sold as well. Unfortunately if your cousin sends you one of these cards and uses your REAL email address, then the junk email will start rolling in shortly to your REAL email address which is not want you want.

4. When you receive junk email from an individual or company that you are not familiar with, NEVER respond to them asking to unsubscribe from their emails. In most cases, they bought your email address from another company and really are not sure that your email address is even active. If you reply to their attempt to locate you, they now know you exist and you will start receiving email from many more sources. Sure they may remove your email address from their list, but the damage was done when you replied with the unsubscribe.

Hopefully some of these tips will help you manage your junk email better. Unfortunately there is no way of getting rid of junk email 100%, but you can help alleviate most of it.
