Most computer geeks know that using keyboard commands are much quicker than hunting through menus to find what you are looking for. Here are some helpful keyboard commands to remember.
Alt-Tab: If you are at work and surfing where you shouldn't be, open an Excel spreadsheet up while you are surfing. Keep your left hand on the Alt-Tab keys. When the boss walks in, use the Alt-Tab to switch quickly to the Excel spreadsheet. Alt-Tab is also useful if you run many programs at the same time and need to switch back and forth between them. The Windows key located down near the space bar has many useful choices.
WinKey-D: Will minimize all open applications. Hitting it again will restore all the applications to the original state. WinKey-E: Will launch Windows Explorer WinKey-L: Will lock your computer WinKey-S: Will open the Windows Find/Search so you can search your computer for files, folders, etc.
The CTRL Key is probably the most widely used of the keyboard commands. Three powerful commands every computer user needs to know are the following:
CTRL-A: Will select all the items in the window. Useful with text in a word processing program. CTRL-C: Once you've used CTRL-A to select all the text, you can then use CTRL-C to copy all that text to memory. CTRL-V: This will paste what you just copied in memory to a new document.
Some of less popular ones... CTRL-Z: Will undo your last action. So if you make a mistake, try CTRL-Z to undo your last mistake. Some programs allow you to use multiple CTRL-Z's to undo many changes. CTRL-P: Will launch the Print window.
